Self-drilling screws (often called Tek screws, after a common brand name) are specialized fasteners with a built-in drill bit tip at their point. This design allows them to drill their own pilot hole and tap threads as they are driven into the material, eliminating the need for pre-drilling.
- Metal Framing: Connecting steel studs, tracks, and joists.
- Sheet Metal Cladding: Attaching roofing, siding, gutters, and ductwork.
- Joining Dissimilar Materials: Fastening wood, plastic, or composite materials to metal substrates (e.g., attaching plywood to steel framing, electrical boxes to metal studs).
- HVAC: Assembling ductwork and equipment.
- Electrical Enclosures: Mounting boxes and panels to metal structures.
- General Fabrication: Fastening metal brackets, plates, and components.
