Glass Blocks

Glass Blocks

Glass blocks (also called glass bricks) are hollow architectural elements made from two fused glass halves, creating a partial vacuum center. They balance translucency with privacy, insulation, and durability.

  • Privacy with Light Transmission: Ideal for bathrooms, showers, and offices, obscuring views while flooding spaces with natural light
  • Room Dividers: Define zones in open-plan homes without blocking light flow
  • Basement Windows: Water-tight and durable, replacing traditional windows in below-ground applications
  • Skylights: Solid glass blocks (not hollow) are used in floors/ceilings for structural support and light diffusion, e.g., Michigan State Capitol’s glass-block flooring
  • Sound & Thermal Insulation: Reduce noise by ~40 dB and improve energy efficiency
  • Fire Resistance: Withstand fire for 60–90 minutes when specially treated
