A Plain Corner Bead is a rigid, L-shaped metal profile (typically galvanized steel) designed specifically to protect and reinforce the external corners of gypsum drywall partitions and ceilings.

Corner Protection: Shields the vulnerable external 90° corners of drywall from impact damage, dents, and crushing.
Reinforcement: Provides a strong, rigid backing for the joint compound (mud), preventing cracks at the corner over time.
Creating Straight Lines: Serves as a guide for applying joint compound, ensuring a perfectly straight, sharp, and durable corner.
Forming the Corner: Defines and maintains the precise angle of the external corner during the finishing process.

Uses:

After drywall sheets are installed, the bead is positioned over the external corner.
It is fastened securely to the underlying framing or drywall using nails, screws, or a crimping tool.
Multiple layers of joint compound are applied over the flanges of the bead, feathering out onto the adjacent drywall faces.
The rigid metal core ensures the corner remains straight and sharp as the mud is smoothed and sanded.
